Why are there palm trees on the roof? This question might come to mind as one arrives in Hamburg by train. In the heart of the city, where the former Karstadt Sport building once stood, now rises "Jupiter".
Spanning 8,000 square meters across six floors, Jupiter has established itself as a dynamic center of art, design, and culture. Here, emerging talents and established artists meet with curious visitors and art lovers, all eager to experience the vibrant art scene of Hamburg. I have spent many unforgettable evenings here, whether at a feminist concert, dancing or sipping hot drinks at the Christmas market, surrounded by radiant art and celebrating people.
For those not just passing time waiting for their train, the Jupiter Café offers the perfect spot to unwind. On the ground floor, shops selling handmade ceramics, fashion, and art invite you to browse and linger. Jupiter is always a place of discovery, with a constantly changing lineup of exhibitions, markets, and performances.
Conceived as a creative interim use to combat vacancies, this project enriches Hamburg’s cityscape with innovative ideas. More than just a building, Jupiter is a living symbol of Hamburg's promising creativity.
