Just a short walk from Hamburg Central Station, Münzgarten is a self-managed urban garden and community space in the Münzviertel – a small, socially engaged neighborhood known for creativity, solidarity, and resistance to gentrification. In this unexpected green pocket near the station, people come together to garden, fix bikes, and hang out.
From spring to fall, the garden truly comes alive every Thursday from 5 to 10 pm: with cold drinks, shared dinners, and sometimes fresh pizza from the wood-fired oven. It’s uncommercial, collectively run, and open to everyone – a space that values community over consumption.
Münzgarten is part of the broader Viertelzimmer collective, which also hosts projects like an open screen printing workshop and offers space for political exchange – an increasingly important thing in the current climate.
