In case you are afraid of graveyards, this might not be the best tip for you. However, this ancient graveyard is far from being scary. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful, calmest parks you can find in the city center. Between the old gravestones, people meet up with their friends for a relaxed picnic, enjoy a romantic date or show their artistic skills with the slack line. I really like this place a lot – not in spite of its history, but actually because of it. I really like the fact that the graveyard is losing its scary, horror-movie-like image by simply including it in our daily life.
The last deceased had already been buried in 1897, but the park was officially being used as a cemetery until the late 1970s. However, it has always been re-adapted for other purposes as well. Until the '50s, people actually used the free space between the graves as farmland for potatoes or vegetables.
One of my favorite parts is the wonderful, charming little linden alley, which leads through the park. It invites you to a relaxed evening walk if you want to escape from the city for a little bit.
