This little wooden pier on the banks of the Alster is just perfect for a few hours of city relaxation. Dangle your feet in the water, watch the swans and sailboats pass by or just enjoy the nice view of the city. This is free, no strings attached. There usually is an ice cream vendor close by and you will find an okay Cafe/Bar (Bodo's Bootssteg) near the pier, where you can rent a boat, buy a beer or simply use the toilet. Just 50 meters north, the beautiful Alster-Park invites you to take a stroll and extend your city escape.
There are two very nice ways to get here. By bike (which I always recommend for Hamburg) it is a super smooth drive along the Alster or through the beautiful neighborhood of Pöseldorf. A station for the Hamburg-Rental-Bikes (Stadtrad) is close by. The truly superior way is by boat. Just buy some snacks and drinks and hop on a Alster Cruise boat at Jungfernstieg (or at Mühlenkamp/Winterhude). It is just 2 stops, 15 Minutes and € 4 fare to bring you to this exact spot.
In the summer, the boats leave every hour (see link for schedule). And no worries, the boats will come back eventually to bring you back to the city. Unless you like to let them pass by one by one and sigh: "Let's take the next one".
In the winter, bring a blanket and some hot tea. And if there is any sun in Hamburg, it is HERE.
