Łaźnia Nowa (New Bath) theatre is located in the heart of historical Nowa Huta - the East district of Krakow - Osiedle Szkolne. This is my neighbourhood and I have always been proud and very happy that I live so close to such an outstanding spot on the cultural map of Krakow.
This modern theatre was founded in 2005 and claims to be the newest dramatical theatre in Krakow. Łaźnia Nowa resides in the post-industrial halls of a former technical school. The whole building - both outside and inside - is arranged in a post-industrial style.
The manager and director of the theatre comes from the area. Maybe this is why Łaźnia Nowa promotes Nowa Huta in all its aspects - the essence of this district appears in some plays performed here.
But for us, inhabitants of Nowa Huta, this is not just a theatre. There are a lot of events organized at this place - meetings with different actors or directors, different workshops for everyone who's interested in participating. This place tells everyone that Nowa Huta has started changing and there is a space for culture here as well.
It is also worth seeing for its surroundings - you can see the communist architecture of Nowa Huta when you come here. If you stop at Łaźnia Nowa, you can also pop into Klub Kombinator (check the Klub Kombinator article), which I highly recommend.
