Running a successful local business in London’s fiercely identifiable, idiosyncratic neighbourhoods comes down to knowing your market, and it’s something Stormbird has wrangled well.
Camberwell has, like all of inner London, changed markedly in recent years, but unlike some of its peers has managed to hold on to the things that make it a quintessential south London neighbourhood. It’s noisy, has an old-school shopping mall, is genuinely diverse — something the businesses that line its streets reflect — and, contextually, remains relatively affordable.
Stormbird then, is the perfect pub for the people who have arrived in recent years to call it home. Stormbird is a beer-focused tap room often with some 15 beers on offer and an understated vibe free of the try-hard and trendy trappings of the busiest 'cool' pubs in other parts of the city.
And busy this is too, filled with the people who live in Camberwell and the surrounding area, Stormbird has all the hallmarks of a proper neighbourhood bar where younger and perhaps slightly wealthier locals retreat to after a day’s work. Despite being one of the more upmarket pubs in the area it maintains a wholesome and cool vibe, attracting no one profession or scene.
