The Activist Kitchen is a rare LA gem where creativity arrives real and raw. This isn’t Hollywood glitz; it’s Heliotrope off Melrose in the messy, magical process of artists testing ideas live. They have open mics, stand-up nights, spoken word, music, and moments that surprise even me.
It's a stage, studio, shop and creative space all in one. From the comfy couches to the mushroom pillows, its 420-friendly vibe welcomes all into a free space of expression. I saw Melinda Hill working out material for her brand-new special here — and it was very special! So intimate, awesome, and unforgettable. I love to come here for the open mic every Thursday at 8:30 pm, hosted by @memeintothevoid.
The Activist Kitchen delivers real/raw artistry. Creatives from all walks of life shine on this stage. Comedians, poets, musicians, and makers collide in a space where the stage is the heartbeat. There's art for sale and a small shop where I bought the cutest pink activist kitchen T-shirt. There are cute clothes, custom jewelry, crystals, books, zines, and bold art in all corners, but the core is always the performance. I feel like I'm making a difference in the world just by being here.
