Yes, you read that title correctly: a bread museum inside a furniture store! HD Buttercup is a furniture and home decor store in a historic building. I am a huge fan of interior design shows, and most of the shows filmed in LA show the designers shopping at HD Buttercup. HD Buttercup furnishings have a high price point, but the collection is eclectic and fun, and I enjoy "window shopping" there even when I am not in the market for new furniture.
The building is historic, as it was the original site of Helms bakery, a local bakery that went global in the 1930s. Helms bread was the "Official Bread" of the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and became the "first bread on the moon" as the supplier to the Apollo 11! There is a small museum within the furniture store with mementos from the heyday of Helm's bakery (in the right hand side of the photo). Go for a stroll in HD Buttercup and the other design stores in the historic district, and then stop for a beer at Father's Office!
