If you happen to be a lover of ice cream, someone who enjoys an adventure, or both, try venturing out some 6 miles east of downtown LA to the suburb of Alhambra and visit Fosselman’s Ice Cream, Co.
Fosselman’s first opened in 1919 and prides itself on serving all-natural, hand-made ice cream. The ice cream parlor serves dozens of different ice cream flavors, ice cream sundaes (including a brownie sundae), root beer floats, banana splits, and shakes and malts. Fosselman’s also offers a full selection of candy, selling over 50 kinds including a full selection of salt water taffy. Fosselman’s offers a different seasonal ice cream flavor every month. I’m partial to their chocolate malts.
What is unique and creditworthy about Fosselman’s is that while it is a classic ice cream parlor, it very much has kept up with the times. Although it maintains an underlying philosophy from 1919 that serves them well in present day (and undoubtedly some of the same flavors), Fosselman’s is not simply a time capsule. In addition to the classic ice cream flavor and treats, Fosselman’s has new flavors like brown butter, horchata, Nutella, Green Tea, and cappuccino. Many ice cream flavors are derived from Asian and Latin American ingredients. In that regard, Fosselman’s reflects the diversity of Alhambra on its menu.
For fans of ice cream and sweet treats, Fosselman’s is definitely worth a visit.
Pro-Tip: Fosselman’s only accepts cash payments and does not take credit card or debit card payments.
