Tao is a cool spot to hit Open Mics and do Stand-Up Comedy. There's a mic at least four times every week. There are classes taught on rotation, and private lessons for people who want extra polish.
I started my path in stand-up at Tao and am very grateful for the zen-like approach of the teacher Veteran Comedian Bobbie Oliver. Bobbie has been doing stand-up for over 25 years, she's been featured on ABC and NPR, and lastly, she is the author of The Tao of Comedy: Embrace the Pause.
Bobbie teaches a unique approach to stand-up comedy: Embrace the Pause. Slow down. Breathe. She teaches that our best jokes, observations, and performances come from the pause. By embracing a Tao approach to comedy, we create what we're meant to create. She teaches online classes, private lessons, and hosts open mics in person and on Zoom.
Personally, I found Tao a lovely place to do stand-up comedy. I took the 8 week course, developed a 5 minute bit, and performed my first show at Flapper's Comedy Club. From time to time, I go back for an Open Mic. $5 gets your entry and a drink! Or a show for $10.
Tao is a cool, underground place to enjoy comedy or do a bit yourself!
