Laemmle Theaters is the place to go for independent film screenings in Los Angeles. Laemmle is a classic. "A scion of cinema's golden age," established in 1938 by Kurt and Max Laemmle - nephews of legendary Carl Laemmle (Founder of Universal Pictures). Laemmle showcases independent arthouse films from around the world. They even have a run of the Oscar shorts.Â
There are 9 Laemmle Theatre locations throughout Los Angeles. My favorite locations are Glendale and Music Hall in Beverly Hills. Music Hall is a nice place to relax in the Hills. It's close to LACMA and SAG and it's fun and inspiring to be in the creative energy of this area. Park at the meters on Wilshire or in the $5 lot around the corner.Â
My husband surprised me with tickets to see Yo Yo Ma's "The Music of Strangers" and it was great. It was a beautiful film and a fun date night idea! For tickets, popcorn, and parking, we spent $30.Â
