I’ll be honest: I have never (not even once!) walked into Jet Rag. Their $1 Sunday sale takes place in their parking lot, just outside the store, and that’s the main (ok, only) reason I’ve ever found myself in this amazing place. The pros have been here digging for value for years – and then turning those $1 purchases for forty times that at Buffalo Exchange, well before Nasty Gal even existed. Although I’ve never done that, I’ve been fortunate enough to find many of my favorite coats and jackets in their endless piles.
The lowdown: get there by 10am and warm up by casually going through the clothes that you will already see on the parking lot pavement. Around 10:30, direct your attention to the giant “burritos” neatly being placed in parallel rows. The crowd will quickly surround them and study them in anticipation. About 10:45, the Jet Rag MC will give everyone the ground rules and then proceed to cut out the last cable tie from each big bag of clothes. Once the last one is open, the madness begins. Don’t hesitate, just dive in and grab as much as you can, then take your loot to the side and go through it, discarding rejects back into the main pile. Now, whether you find something great or not, the truth is Jet Rag is more about the experience than the shopping. All items are just $1, but the rush of adrenaline diving into the clothes is priceless.
