Like many favourite places of Spotters, and like many great spots which are often in city areas that visitors don’t find - I discovered Via Lorenzo by chance when in a part of Malmö I don’t usually frequent.
I’m certain Malmö has the most pizzerias in Sweden per capita. There are tonnes of pizzerias here - many claiming in one way or another that they have the best pizza in town – and some writing #1 in their name to ‘prove’ it.
This sheer number probably is connected to Swedes loving pizza – especially on certain days like January 1st, when it's particularly un-Swedish to not get a ‘bakis-pizza’ (hangover pizza).
I was driving in the area one day and saw a place I recalled a friend recommending, but the queue was too long - and I’m not a big fan of waiting, and remembered seeing Via Lorenzo down the street, so I went there instead.
What a pizza! I’ve eaten many in Malmö since 2000 at countless places, and this was the best by far. Great price, fresh toppings, and unlike many pizzerias, they are not stingy with the cheese.
Via Lorenzo has two Italian chefs - one who moved directly from Milan to work there. I also think Via Lorenzo is a great spot to watch sports on TV and it's less crowded than more central locations, and when Malmö's football team MFF has a home game it's really lively.
They also have good wine and beer prices with a generous serving for the house wine.
