Corbieres Wine Cavern is well known by locals and generally considered a Manchester institution. It can be a little tricky to find, as it’s located on a small alley just around the corner from St Ann’s Square. Somehow I always manage to forget exactly where it is without a bit a of a wander, but once I’ve found it, it’s a great place to show friends the true Manchester experience.
It’s a basement bar, so the ‘cavern’ name feels particularly appropriate, as you head down the narrow staircase in the entrance. There’s a good selection of wine and a few ales on tap as well as bottles, though the main attraction is the underground atmosphere and the fantastic jukebox. It’s one of Manchester’s finest, with a great selection of indie and rock classics, including lots of local bands. They also hold live music nights every other Thursday and pinball competitions on Fridays!
