Fuel Cafe is a Withington High Street institution. It's an independent vegetarian cafe/bar that holds regular music events in the evenings. The interior is a little bohemian with lots of cosy places to sit. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly, which makes it my go-to place to grab dinner and drink any night of the week in Withington village.
The food at Fuel is simple but tasty. Everything on the menu is vegetarian, and vegan options are available for some of the dishes. My personal favourite is their famous falafel burger, which comes with homemade chunky chips, a couple of different salads and hummus for dipping. The halloumi "fish" and chips are a close second choice for me.
Regular evening gig nights are advertised on Fuel's facebook page and held in the upstairs event space. They range from open mic and folk nights to punk rock and more experimental electronica. The gigs are sometimes pay-as-you-feel, but ticketed entry generally goes up to around £10.
