As you might know, Milan is not the worst place when it comes to shopping. If you are out for something different than the Golden Triangle (I think it actually got its name from the fact that your credit card needs to be Gold or higher to shop here) or the chain-mania at Corso Vittorio Emanuele, via Solferino is my tip for you.
Tucked away in the historical and very pretty Brera district, it's central, yet far away from the crowds you will find in the shops surrounding the Duomo. I go there to just look around and I'm sure I can always find the thing I didn't know I "needed". If you are looking for something, but you are not quite sure what that is, Via Solferino is your place. From ballerinas in 1001 different colors, a cool bag, hip pants or the glasses that no one else has, there are many different independent shops.
Tip - The street gets 'cut through' by a crossroad; pass the crossroad and continue on Via Solferino and after 20 min you will start encountering the 'play' part of the street - several of the coolest bars and restaurants of the city lined up next to each other.
