Whenever I travel, I try to find at least one local coffee shop or restaurant with food that I know isn’t available in my hometown. I feel I’ve really experienced a part of the local culture, and it gives me bragging rights when I get back home. With that in mind, if friends visit me in Montreal, one place I make it a point to take them to is Rockaberry in Monkland Village.
Rockaberry is a local business started by a husband and wife, opened over 20 years ago. Though they serve lunch and dinner, they’re famous for their dessert pies, particularly their apple crumble or strawberry cheese pie. But all of their pies taste far from generic and include flavours like Toblerone cheesecake, key lime, millefeuille and oreo cheesecake. Rockaberry is also known for cutting their customers a huge slab of pie, too much for one person to finish. Not a problem if you’re someone with a sweet tooth like me.
