Wilensky is probably the real heart of the Mile-End neighborhood, with its long lasting tradition, its charm and its history. They have been serving my favorite, their special sandwich, since 1932 which cost 12 cents back in the day. This family run business is keeping the place busy with a simple but delicious menu. One of the highlights is their homemade cherry cola, a must to get the full experience.
When entering the place, I can almost feel the weight of time thanks to the preservation of the original look. It really shows that millions of customers have stepped in this joint. Sitting at the bar really gets my attention; the decor is somehow hilarious as well as dramatic, with intricate details that you can only notice if you take your time to savour your meal. So it's not really about the food but the history and traditions kept intact in a world of disposable. Makes my mind good.
