I've passed Cafino in Trudering, the quieter, residential side of Munich where the streets still hum softly, countless times. The 'Café Fashion und mehr' placard always caught my eye, as did the stylish items in the shop window. I recently and finally managed to make the time to go in, and the place just lived up to all my expectations: inside, it feels like stepping into someone’s living room.
Cafino isn’t just a café. It’s part boutique, part refuge. Owner Sabine Koch has created a space that feels both thoughtful and full of heart. I tucked into a crispy on the outside, soft on the inside bagel topped with craime fraiche, rucola and smoked salmon while my six-year-old enjoyed a bagel with delicious strawberry jam, made by Sabine herself. Indeed, nothing here feels rushed — even the service carries the unspoken message: stay a while.
The scent of fresh coffee and baked bread mingles with the soft glow of hanging bulbs. Wooden tables, linen napkins, shelves filled with small treasures — handmade bowls, candles, scarves — each corner seems to invite you to slow down. Every item of clothing (think gorgeous wooden knits and leather pants) I looked at had been made locally, as were the other household goods and foodstuffs on sale.
This is a place for pausing. For watching the street through the window, for talking, for breathing again. I'll be back soon.
