Scottland has its Loch Ness, and Munich has its Sendlinger Loch (an excavation pit filled with water in the center of the Sendling district). Is it worth seeing it? No! But it's good that we have one. Every city should have its own hole, just to have a topic to talk about. But first, I will tell you how it started.
As the population in Munich is constantly growing, living space is naturally limited. But for the most part, expensive apartments were built that hardly anyone could afford. See: gentrification. And a few years ago, interest rates were still so low that expensive construction projects were springing up like mushrooms. But that has changed in recent years. The Sendlinger Loch is the best example of the fact that the developer has made a mistake easily. But what is one man's sorrow is another man's joy.
Thanks to Google reviews (more than 100), the Sendlinger Loch has become a "famous" spot, and even the Süddeutsche Zeitung has reported on it. Of course, the reviews are not necessarily meant seriously, but they are very amusing.
Here are some examples. "A dream came true: I have my balcony with a lake view for reasonable price." Or "Still breathtaking views, even if it is now much more crowded than a few years ago. Hence 1 star deduction... But it's only logical that such an exceptionally beautiful hole quickly becomes a tourist magnet. We will be coming back again and again in the future."
