Visiting Cake Chef in New York is always a treat! As I approach the storefront with its royal blue awning, I can already smell the mouth-watering scent of freshly-baked breads and desserts. A little bell signals my entry into the bakery, and the friendly staff waves hello from behind the glass cases of baked goods. Behind them, the shelves are stocked with freshly baked bread. The rest of the bakery is decorated with a charming collection of vintage cookie jars.
Cake Chef bakes their goods daily in small batches, which ensures high quality and freshness. The entire selection is delicious, but I'd like to recommend my personal favorites. For dinner parties, I always bring an apple horseshoe. The horn-shaped pastry is filled with baked cinnamon apples and topped with crumbles of brown sugar. If I'm in the mood for cookies, nothing beats their pignoli cookies, or their decadent raspberry walnut bars. And when my birthday comes around, I have to have the Brown Derby cake. There are layers of chocolate cake, banana custard, fresh strawberries, and chocolate mousse, all covered with a layer of whipped cream and topped generously with chocolate sprinkles. Yum!
Cake Chef is a family-owned bakery located on Jewett Avenue in the heart of Staten Island. You can often spot the Cake Chef himself standing in doorway to the kitchen, smiling as his fellow Staten Islanders fill the store to indulge in a sweet treat.
