"The "Museum of the Moving Image" in New York is a playful museum that embraces the whimsy of movie-making with a quirky collection of memorabilia & more!"

I always feel a little self-indulgent when I go to the Museum of the Moving Image. Despite its rather formal-sounding name, it's a playful museum that embraces the whimsy of movie-making. The museum has a quirky collection of movie memorabilia, including Chewbacca’s head and Robin Williams’ fat suit from Mrs. Doubtfire. Interactive exhibits let you play around with movie-making techniques such as adding your own dubbing to famous movie scenes, or making your own stop-motion cartoon.

The Museum also has an awesome permanent Jim Henson Exhibition, which is all about Jim Henson's career in film and television. You'll see original puppets and memorabilia from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. I grew up on these movies, so it was a huge thrill to learn about Henson's work behind the scenes. Make sure to bring your own headphones to listen to the music accompanying the movie clips.

The Museum of the Moving Image also does special film screenings and movie events throughout the year.
