As a former basketball player (very low level) I still like to bring the ball with me to the park to shoot some hoops after work and leave off some steam. Though not exactly Bronx or Harlem in New York, Grünerhagen Ballpark is probably the closest thing you can get to a streetball vibe in Oslo. And my place to go when I want to play or just enjoy some of the livelier places in the area. On sunny days there will be lots of people at the court, but there are several baskets, so there is normally enough space for everyone. It can also be nice to just hang out and enjoy watching other people play or to relax on the grass while talking to friends. Further, there is an artificial turf ground to play football, and during wintertime, the park fills up with families who go skating on the ice that freezes on the ground. I like to combine it with getting a coffee at the famous Tim Wendelboe coffee shop which is just next door. The ballpark is open until 22:00 all day so it's a perfect place to spend those bright light Oslo evenings of April, May, and June, my favorite sign that summer is coming.
