Tjuvholmen Sculpture Park Oslo

Art and tranquility

"The sculpture park was designed by the Italian architect Renzo Piano and the sculptures are playful, inviting the audience to sit, climb or crawl into them."

Next to the popular shopping area Aker Brygge you will find Tjuvholmen. Opened in 2012, Tjuvholmen offers a captivating mix of fine dining, cozy cafés and waterfront fun along the quay. This area's rich history, once bustling with docks, shipyards, and warehouses, has evolved into a modern hub defined by innovative architecture, stylish apartments, and trendy restaurants. Here you will find the luxurious Thief Hotel and the Astrup Fearnley Museum, which boasts Norway’s finest collection of contemporary art. There are also other art galleries there as well, such as Galleri Haaken, Galleri Brandstrup, and the Pushwagner Gallery.

However, if you're looking for a cost-free outing and a leisurely stroll, I highly recommend visiting the Tjuvholmen Sculpture Park. I often come here to find tranquillity and inspiration. The park consists of a number of sculptures from internationally renowned artists of the post-war period, such as Anish Kapoor, Franz West, Louise Bourgeois, Peter Fishli & David Weiss, Ellsworth Kelly and Paul McCarthy. The sculpture park was designed by the well-known Italian architect Renzo Piano, who also designed the Astrup Fearnley Museum. The sculptures are playful, inviting the audience to sit, climb or crawl into them.

Adjacent to the sculpture park is a child-friendly man-made sand beach with shallow water with an amazing view of the Oslofjord. During the summer months, the park is popular for sunbathing and swimming. It is also a great place to plan a picnic with your loved one.
