If you haven't heard, hairy drag queens are in this year, and I know just the place to see the best of the best. For the past nine years Martha Graham Cracker has been a Philadelphia staple at L' Etage performing her monthly cabaret show every third Thursday at 20:00. Martha is not your everyday run of the mill female impersonator. For one, she sings all of her own songs with a band, so no lip syncing here. Although she is just as glamorous as every other drag queen out there, she refuses to shave or cover the abundance of hair spilling out from her dress in all directions.
Martha has become so popular that she has performed all over the world. Her show is for everyone, as you will see while you are waiting in line to get into one of her sold out shows. The mix of patrons will be a testament to just how good the show is. Martha seems to like the diversity also, as she moves around the room serenading the guys that feel out of place while she climbs onto their laps. If you are worried it is a showtune extravaganza, worry no more. Although the music spans from the 70's to today, they are not your traditional covers you hear performed by everyone else, but instead Martha adds her spin on the songs. So much so that sometimes you can't figure out if you have ever heard the song before.
