The only reason I actually know this exists is because I lived behind the small "park" for over 10 years. Bring your lawn chairs, your beer or other beverages, maybe a bite to eat and some friends or family, and you can listen to the mummers in the summer before New Year's Day!
There is a small parking lot (?) behind the Mummers Museum where you can go and listen to one of the Mummers bands playing. For those of you who don't know the Mummers, they are groups of bands that walk in a Parade on Broad Street every New Year's Day, a Philly tradition. Most of the groups have "houses" on two streets (2nd street) between Washington and Snyder, and they like to practice for us local people between May and September EVERY THURSDAY around 20:00 for an hour or so.
There really isn't anything else like it. It's just good, clean fun and a nice way to spend an early Thursday evening.
