Growing up in the Midwest near Kansas City, Missouri, good barbeque is something you seek like a beacon in the night calling you home to the gooey, sweet, and spicy goodness of slathered ribs and pulled pork. I have tried so many places in the city of Philadelphia, but was never satisfied until a friend took me to Sweet Lucy's Smokehouse. The smoky smell of slow smoked barbeque filled the air outside and only intensified as we walked in. The décor is simple like a barbeque joint should be.
Sweet Lucy's Smokehouse has everything I am used to at a barbeque joint like ribs, pork, beef, and chicken, but they even take it a step further and offer barbeque turkey. On Monday nights they offer an all you can eat buffet where you can sample everything on their menu, so be sure to wear your stretchy pants. The best part about Sweet Lucy's Smokehouse, is their side items are just as good as their main dishes. Try the cornbread and mac & cheese!
Although they are still in the city limits of Philadelphia they are not in Philadelphia proper, so you will need a car to get there, or you could take the train towards Trenton and get off at Holmesburg Jct. You will then have to walk a block from there, but it is so worth it.
