You know how flavors and scents can take you back to certain moments in your life? For me, nothing brings up childhood excitement like ice-cream does.
Weekend trips to Sincelo – a 30-ish year old gelateria in Porto – with my parents and my brother are among my most precious memories. It wasn't just about the ice-cream. It was the time we took to choose it, the tastings they'd offer to help us decide. And watching the ice-cream being prepared, all the way to that beautiful awe-inducing, cloud-like chantilly topping. And the melted chocolate scent... Wow!
I remember having to stand on my toes to look at the window. And suddenly I could rest my elbows right on top. I grew up, and Sincelo grew old (until recently, when it was renovated).
On a recent day I found myself feeling like the little girl standing on her toes and wide-eyed looking at the colorful mounts of frozen deliciousness. And being immersed in that same chocolate scent. This time, at La Copa.
The highlights: the chocolate topping, that beautiful Chantilly and the Belgian waffles!
The familiar faces and old-time favorites are there. It's the same, but different. This is a brand new place that feels fresh and inviting. It's filled with light and has a nice little patio in the back.
I found my new favorite gelateria in Porto. Time travel included. It may not do just that for you, but you'll surely enjoy a scoop. Or more. Definitely more!
