Leitaria da Quinta do Paço is one of the oldest and best places to eat an éclair in Porto - but don't expect the traditional French éclair. The Portuguese one is traditionally filled with whipped cream - but you can order one without it - and different toppings. The classic one is topped with chocolate but they also offer berries, lemon, passion fruit, dark chocolate and crisp toppings - don't worry if you've found a new flavor that you love and they take it off the menu, because they add and remove flavors all the time.
Every time I go there I end up choosing some éclairs, but they offer lots of coffee-based options and they are known for their manual milk production and high quality dairy products. It’s common to not find tables available inside or outside of the place. So, even if you can't find a table and you are in a hurry or you want to surprise someone, order some éclairs to go! They will give you a nice box to transport them in. If you want to pay with card, keep in mind that the minimum value is €5.
Be careful, because once you start eating the éclairs, you won’t be able to stop. They're not overly sweet, so you can keep eating different types - and they are even better when paired with a cup of coffee. Listen to me when I say this: if you like pastry besides the custard tart, this will be one of your Porto gems.
