Historically, a significant number of Vietnamese citizens came to the territory of the Czech Republic in the early 50s' with the establishment of a Czech-Vietnamese school in Chrastava (around a hundred kids). In the same years, the Czechoslovak Republic and Vietnam signed a deal on technical and scientific cooperation. Other years were 67 and 82 when greater numbers of Vietnamese students and workers were coming to the Czechoslovak Republic.
The heart of the Vietnamese community is in Prague, in the Vietnamese market called Sapa, also called Little Hanoi (more about that in future articles). You will find the most authentic bistros in Sapa and Sapa is also the origin of fresh ingredients, herbs like perilla or coriander are coming from and it makes the local Vietnamese places so unique.
Pho Vietnam Anglická is a famous Vietnamese restaurant in Prague. Famous for its authentic cuisine, fresh ingredients and good service. They are well known for delicious and strong Phở soups and Bún chả — which is served with grilled pork, white rice noodles and herbs with a dipping sauce. Their version is a must. Spring rolls with beef or shrimp are a great appetizer — homemade lemonades or jasmine tea are a great combination with slightly spicy Bún chả. Portions are pretty big, so try not to order too much, even though it will be difficult to resist.
