Every city has spots where you can easily see the population react to the changes in temperature. On the first day of half-sunny Rotterdam skies, tens of Rotterdammers have a domestic pilgrimage to Capri, one of the first traditional ice cream shops in town. Asking around, I was told by friends that they have been going to this place for ages. After spending here a couple of warm seasons, I know that kids wait anxiously to be taken there for a special cup with their favorite character and a big serving of ice cream.
As for the adults… I usually have only one or two scoops, but the possibilities seem to be endless. The classic huge ice-cream glasses that scream summer are available to eat with tranquility in the sweet-colored lounge while watching the difficult choices of those who still need to settle to a flavor. They also make ice cream cakes for special occasions.
A special plus for me: I’m a die-hard chocolate ice cream junkie. The first time that was taken to Capri, I asked for a scoop… and it tasted just like the one I used to eat when I was a child. Maybe it was just my desire of feeling young again, but you can imagine that I go there as much as I can.
