Situated in the beautiful Scheepvaartskwartier Fröbel is a favourite stop for breakfast, lunch or if your sweet tooth starts aching. Apart from the inviting interior, the delicious food and enticing sweeties, it is the staff which makes the difference here.
The serving staff at Fröbel are all mentally impaired. By working at Fröbel, these individuals actively participate in society and they are some of the friendliest servers you will find in Rotterdam.
Now, what to choose? One thing is for sure, bring your appetite! The breakfast platter is a good start of the day with a croissant, bread, spreads, ham, cheese, an egg and yoghurt with granola. Personally, I am a huge fan of the South African bobotie sandwich. Initially, I admit I was apprehensive, but the combination of the bobotie on the scrumptious bread with mango chutney, dried apricots and fresh mango is very well thought out and I have not seen this combo anywhere else, ever.
The chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich hits the spot perfectly and the veggie pumpkin hummus sandwich with grilled peppers and cashews or the beet- goat cheese mousse sandwich with walnuts and honey thyme are just healthy deliciousness for vegetarians and carnivores alike.
When it comes to your hot drink sugary companion, my choice is the farmer’s apple pie. On very good authority it is said the lemon cheesecake is also worth the calories. Fröbel brings all kinds of people together under the enjoyment of excellent food; what is better than that?
