There are wooden jetties to be walked on in the water all the while looking at the most beautiful skyline in the Netherlands, ample paths all with different names and distances and secret hiding places from the world. The Kralingse Plas and surrounding woodland is the largest recreational area in Rotterdam. There is something to do for everyone: a golf club, a horse-riding school, children’s playgrounds and water sports facilities.
The changing landscape of the forest with each path giving a different perspective. Some straight from a fairy tale without fearing big bad wolves.
I come to the Kralingse Plas for a longer walk than in one of Rotterdam’s beautiful city parks like Het Park. It is also a beautiful location for leisurely drinks and taking advantage of the great food places. Or maybe, you bring your own picnic and have a quiet moment in nature. The Kralingse Plas does get busy and I am an early bird so I like going early in the morning. Having a morning coffee and watching the city wake up from afar, the best way to start the day. But I am also a sucker for sunsets so grabbing a sundowner or two are also a great alternative but busier. If it is getting a bit busy for your liking, find the Heemtuin; no joggers or dogs allowed, the paths too narrow for buggies and the wooden jetties and benches for you alone and the birds who are hiding from the masses with you.
