Hidden away in the corner near the door opposite the Gin Tonic bar in Foodhallen Rotterdam is Kyatcha. What you immediately notice are the slicing skills of the chefs — all have extensive experience in the Japanese art of cooking.
The entourage of this stand lets you know you are in for something special. The menu has immediate eye-catchers for the sushi connoisseur, as well as well-known favourites done to perfection. The lemon softshell roll and the rainbow roll are my kind of heaven. If you are not into the whole raw fish experience and therefore think you do not like sushi and can skip this stand, think again, because you would be missing out. The beef truffle roll is divine, and the chicken lemongrass poke bowl is inspired and my new favourite poke bowl.
There are vegetarian options, and the bento box is yummy and filling. The quality of the food supersedes high expectations and the presentation of the dishes is nothing short of spectacular. Art is the only appropriate description. What I truly love is that even if you are passing by to pick up some sushi for home (it has become a staple), no compromises are made on presentation. Put your trust in the chef and he will present you with a surprise menu which is ten Euro per course. Considering your likes and dislikes, it feels like he sees your sushi soul and makes the perfect fit. Sushi soulmates for life!
