Even if you're not the mayor, you should step inside San Francisco's City Hall. The building itself is an architectural wonder; it's no surprise there are multiple wedding shoots here every day. The original City Hall was levelled, all except the dome, in the 1906 earthquake and the current building was built in 1915 as a picturesque example of the American Renaissance movement.
City Hall is easily accessible by transit and requires a brief security search in order to enter. Definitely stand below the dome for some photos and wander through most of the main floor, which is open to the public. When the sun goes down, the building is reliably illuminated in themed colors (sports teams, holidays, etc.).
