PhotoSynthesis has grown into one of the biggest photography hubs in Sofia. It started as a shop for equipment and accessories but in recent years has expanded into much more than that.
In addition to selling new and used gear, they offer high-quality printing services, photography courses and advice. A gallery which regularly hosts contemporary photography exhibitions is situated in a building just next door. A glass-roof bar right between the shop and the gallery offers a nice place to mingle with the many amateur and professional photographers who come here to work or simply have a drink.
The cafe right above the shop is the best place to write, read or just relax. You can spend a long afternoon going through the many photo albums in the small library just opposite the coffee bar. If you happen to be in Sofia in November/December, you might be lucky enough to catch the photography bazaar at the bar, where you can buy the works of some of the best contemporary Bulgarian photographers.
PhotoSynthesis is a great place if you are a photography lover, or even if, just like me, you simply enjoy people-watching - the strategic location and huge windows of the 2nd floor cafe make it perfect for this purpose.

The meatballs are usually served with cabbage salad, lyutenitsa dip & fries. As a Bulgarian, I find kyufte to be a comforting dish that never disappoints.

Honestly, the shop looks more like a lab. Clean, minimalist, and luxurious. You can order whole cakes for special occasions or choose a treat from the beautifully-arranged showcase.
