When it comes to quick Uzbek snacks, tandyr somsa can be the best choice for grabbing a bite. Tashkent is full of places making somsa, however it is the personal choice of a local where to have a bite. Uzbek somsa is a palm-size pastry stuffed with beef, onion and spices. Despite its simple look, the taste is awesome.
The secret of delicious somsa is the crispy dough. Once you bite somsa, the pastry must crumble due to the number of thin layers. Of course, the filling should not be neglected, either. By the way, you may try other fillings such as chicken, potato and pumpkin.
Here, the chef’s skills bring together dough done well and the right filling. The result is treating customers with delicious drop-shaped somsas. For those who like spicy flavors, the waiter can bring you pepper sauce.
Besides somsa, you can try here other Uzbek traditional dishes. The one I tried was a wedding plov. The taste was good, but the plov in Choyhona Oshpaz (check out my article) impressed my taste buds even more.
Important: you may want to come between 12:00-14:00, as during lunchtime you will catch freshly baked somsas and other filling options. If you come later, you will witness fewer people and fewer somsa left. As usual after any Uzbek dish, I enjoy a cup of hot green tea to finish.
In 2022 the place has been renovated and now it looks modern and fresh. The menu offers more variety of meals and salads.
