Excellent presentation is a necessity at this relatively new but popular Uzbek national food restaurant. With fresh shashlik displayed in brightly lit fridges, this restaurant is particularly eye-catching. Owned by the Bek Group, who operate their popular ‘Bek’ restaurant only next door, Shashlik & Somsa is a haven for meat lovers in Tashkent.
Glancing at their shashlik window, you’ll spot all the usual Uzbek favourites. Skewered beef chunks, ground beef, mutton and liver are all very popular here. Additionally, they serve ‘roulette’ skewers, chicken wings and even salmon kebabs. Their serve over counter refrigerators are awash with colours!
Spanning two floors, the restaurant’s interior decor is also important here. The floors are spotless, and the walls are decorated with white and red flowers. It’s clear they have invested in both their menu and their image here.
For those like me who enjoy some fibre in their diet, fear not: the restaurant also has mushroom, tomato, potato, sweetcorn and mixed vegetable kebabs, as well as a number of tasty salads. And the verdict? The food is as satisfying in taste as it is in appearance, and it is definitely a place we’ll visit again!
