Tenat is one of my favourite restaurants in Tel Aviv.
The restaurant serves Ethiopian food, with traditional dishes like injera flatbread topped with lentils and vegetables that you eat with your hands (though you can also ask for a fork ;) ), lentil salads and more seasonal dishes, alongside healthy drinks and creative desserts.
The best thing on the menu, in my opinion, is the injera topped with mushrooms. Another favourite dish is their delicious Ethiopian bread cubes in salsa.
The food comes in surprisingly large, filling portions that are perfect for sharing.
Everything on the menu is 100% vegan, so the place is ideal for vegans and vegetarians, though others will also enjoy the rich flavours and beautiful presentation of the colourful dishes.
The space is pleasant and welcoming with chilled vibes and the staff is always friendly. They'll make you feel at home, and when the place isn't full, you can actually imagine you are in someone's living room…
Tenat is a little bit out of the way, on a street in the south of the city that most visitors won't frequent. That said, the area is well on its way to gain an “up and coming” status and is quite close to Lewinsky spice market that’s definitely worth a visit as well.
