This cute yellow duck was one of the most famous characters in Israel. It was created by the artist Dudu Geva back in the 80s, who used to publish a daily cartoon starring The Duck in a popular newspaper. The simple black-and-white (even though he's yellow in real life, of course) cartoons described the Israeli atmosphere and reality in a humorist way, and even today it's remembered as an Israeli icon. There was eve a huge duck statue on the roof of Tel Aviv city hall!
The statue in Masaryk Square was placed in 2009, 4 years after the artist's death, to honor his work and remember the duck. Underneath it it says: "Always optimistic". The area around it is just beautiful: covered with grass, with a playground where you can always see children play, people walking their dogs and nice benches to sit on and read a book. Around the square there are a few stores of young Israeli fashion and shoe designers - pretty expensive but you should take a look. There are also nice cafes and bars. It's definitely one of the most beautiful squares in Tel Aviv. So if you have some time for relaxation between the beach and a tour, stop by at Masaryk Square and say hello to the duck.
