Located on a small street in Florentin, in the south of the city, amongst industrial workshops and lots of graffiti, there is a new, unique cinema for alternative movies.

Two young film students are behind this unlikely spot. They couldn’t find a cinema that screened the kind of movies they wanted to see, so they opened up their own place (with a bit of help from a crowd-funding campaign), where they showcase a curated selection of quality and cult films: Documentaries, indie movies, experimental films, short films, animation and so on…

The place isn’t like any normal cinema you’ve seen; it’s more like a small art house, with just over 40 seats. It’s quite cozy, but that is also what turns it into a place for fun social gatherings for cinema lovers, film creators and anyone who’s into alternative entertainment.

The best way to catch a movie at Cinema Kanada is by checking out their Facebook page for screening schedules that may change from time to time.

The origin of its name and why it is spelled with a K remain a mystery…
