The Agia Sofia church lies in the heart of the city, where Agia Sofia street meets Ermou Street. The yard is full of benches is suitable for meeting a friend. At noon, in between lectures or work, we like to have a quick cup of coffee there. We jump over the fence and enter the church yard. The trees and the lawn make you forget that you are in the middle of the city center. The city buzz reminds you though.
Additionally, a lot of coffee shops are nearby, so it's not hard to find one to grab a cup of coffee or something to eat, in case you are opting for a picnic. After all, everybody knows that the benches are the most comfortable seating option of them all.
If you don't mind dogs and benches, if you would like to experience a little bit of nature while in the busiest streets of the city, then this is the spot. I often take the pleasure of visiting the yard because it seems like you're in the countryside. You jump over the stone fence and there you are - from the city's buzz, into the green. It gives you a great, not just feeling, but also sensation.
Extra Tip! The church is visitable. If that is your thing, go for it!
