There is an old saying that goes like this: 'The Restaurant trying to be best at everything ends up being great at nothing.' Really, one can't dispute this adage, specially when you come across the odd restaurant serving Japanese, Chinese and Korean cuisine, all from the same kitchen. Schizophrenic menu anyone? In fact avoid such restaurants like the plague.
Having said that, there are lounges which attempt and succeed at breaking the easy replicable mold of your typical lounge. Luckily, Insomnia is one of those rare breeds. The locale oozes charm thanks to its warm wood vibe and exposed brick decor along with its subtle but noticeable and alluring lighting, specially at night. Add to this formula a very well stocked bar, solid kitchen, live DJ music (after 22:00) and constantly rotating collections from local artists for you to peruse and discuss over and you have yourself a winner!
On top of this, expect a healthy lineup if you decide to come for brunch... Yes, they do also open for brunch so the question is: Why you haven't tried this place yet? The food might surprise you.
About the only thing Insomnia is missing is a dance floor, which thankfully is too small to have one, which in my opinion is preferable! The locale would be too loud otherwise.
Personally, Insomnia is one of my 'go-to' places as it is quite accessible, being only a 30 second walk south of Bathurst subway station and right in the Annex neighborhood.
