On the northern edge of Torino, Laghetti di Falchera area offers a peaceful escape in the heart of the suburbs. Surrounded by meadows, woodlands, and still waters, these small lakes are a nice retreat for locals seeking quiet and nature just outside their doorsteps.
But the experience doesn’t stop at the lakes. Falchera is also home to one of Torino’s most ambitious post-war urban projects, designed by renowned architect and planner Giovanni Astengo. His vision shaped Falchera into a green, livable neighborhood—one of Italy’s earliest examples of a planned suburban community with social housing, integrated green spaces, and a human-scale layout. Exploring the residential area offers insight into a bold chapter of 20th-century urban planning.
The lakes themselves were once gravel quarries, later reclaimed by nature and the local community. Now, walkers, birdwatchers, and cyclists enjoy soft trails lined with reeds and home to herons, moorhens, and turtles. Local associations continue to care for the space, organizing clean-ups and educational events.
There’s a calm here that’s rare—no traffic noise, no kiosks, just the sound of wind in the grass and birds over water. It’s a spot for reflection, right in suburban Torino.
Reachable by bike or public transport, Laghetti di Falchera is more than a green escape—it’s a piece of Torino’s social and architectural history, quietly waiting to be rediscovered.
