In Italian "latteria" literally means "dairy" (but in slang also a generous decolleté so be careful!), it is the kind of shop were you could usually find milk for instance, but also spices, snacks, drinks and sometimes even fresh products. It is also the kind of place where my Grandma used to take me for the "merenda" (sort of a tea break but with bread and mortadella instead). Hence, as a kid, when my dad, took me to Latteria Testa, I was quite surprised that I could get my (still) favourite ice cream in Turin in a cream bar.
It started as a food shop providing fresh milk, portly breakfasts for white-collar workers and then it evolved with the surrounding areas into a nice bar. A nice bar with a wonderful ice cream. Among cappuccinos, croissants and pastries you will find the owner, who has a dry humour and will stick his nose up if you want to put more than 4 flavours in a 1kg box...
But...the stuff is just as good as heaven! Try the Sicilian chocolate with candied fruits, indulge on the crunchy nougat but do not forget this essential hint; absolutely try the Chantilly cream, it's unique consistence is just like...waves of cream gently brushed by a sweet breeze!
