Lithuanian Russian Drama Theatre was built in 1913 and is the oldest theater building in Lithuania. It’s an architectural monument in the old town of Vilnius old town and is included in the UNESCO protected cultural heritage list.
The Russian Drama Theatre is the only professional theater in Lithuania which shows performances in Russian language. So if you understand Russian, I would recommend you visit the theater performances. However, it’s worth it to come and see only the theater building as well! The architecture of the building combines different styles, such as romance, renaissance and baroque.
If you go inside the theater you will see beautiful interior of the building. The most impressive thing for me is the huge chandelier in the main hall. I also love the red tones inside.
The theater also has a cafe, so grab a drink and enjoy the view from the balcony.
If you are visiting Vilnius in October, it’s possible you will hit Vilnius Jazz Festival, which takes place in the Russian Drama Theater. I really recommend you visit it!
