Spanish Steps Washington DC

Lovely secluded spot

"The "Spanish Steps" in Kalorama, Washington DC, are surrounded by trees and the sound of falling water. A lovely, secluded spot to catch up with a friend!"

I know you might be thinking, why is she writing about some random steps? Well, these steps are beautiful, have a rich history, and are a feature of the Kalorama neighborhood, so how could I not write about them?

Surrounded by trees and the sound of falling water, this is a lovely, secluded spot to sit and catch up with a friend or have a little picnic.

For those curious about the origins of the steps: In 1911, it was determined that span of 22nd Street between S Street and Decatur Place was too steep for carriages and early vehicles. So, the plan for the steps was born. I am not sure if the designers were trying to create a miniature version of the Spanish Steps in Rome, but there is some resemblance between the two. The DC version is definitely less crowded!

If you head up the steps and turn left, you will find yourself at Mitchell Park and at the Woodrow Wilson House.
