In District 5 on Josephstrasse, a side street of the notorious Langstrasse, just some blocks from Limmatplatz, you will find Italienische Confiserie in Zürich - Konditorei Caredda, the perfect blend of Italian and Swiss bakery.
The owner, Paolo Caredda, came to Switzerland at an early age to master the confectioner's trade. He had learned to make the famous Dolci Italiani from his father and grandfather already and was further inspired by famous Swiss colleagues. He opened his store in Josephstrasse in 1998, and the people of Zurich appreciate this little piece of Italy ever since.
Even from the outside, the beautiful and decorative cakes displayed in the shop window catch the eye. As you enter the shop (on the right-hand side), your mouth starts to water. One delicacy after another is beautifully presented in the display case.
My favorites are the cannoli sicilani, ricotta-filled dough rolls. The vermicelles, a Swiss dessert made from chestnut puree, are also heavenly. The marzipan fruits and figures are absolutely worth seeing and almost too good to eat. Many awards and newspaper reports about the confectionery hang on the walls, and rightly so. Customers come from far and wide or take a walk to Caredda to treat themselves to their favorite pastries. At the front of the shop and on the left-hand side, there is a café where baked goods, snacks, lunch and drinks can be consumed. Fine cakes are made to order and Italian take away menus are also available.
