You will find the “Käsehaus Wingenfeld” (“cheese house Wingenfeld”) just across the street from the bakery “Zimmermann” on the Ehrenstraße, which is one of the most popular shopping streets in the centre of Cologne. While back in the days there were a lot of unique little craft shops, today you will unfortunately find mostly stores by big shopping chains. Both “Bäckerei Zimmermann” and “Käsehaus Wingenfeld” are two of the last few that have survived that development and still offer a selection of high quality food.
“Käsehaus Wingenfeld” doesn’t sell German cheeses only but cheese from all over Europe and everything else cheese related (that can be eaten with cheese) such as mustards, crackers, wine and other dairy products, for instance milk, eggs and yogurt. They’ve been in business since 1896. So it is more like a gourmet food store and foodies’ hearts will definitely beat faster. Don’t worry if you – just like me – are a cheese lover and can’t choose from the wide range of cheese. The nice staff will offer you a piece to try anytime.
