The year 2015 was dotted with reflective moments due to various memorial days in Poland. This was a good time to take part in commemoration happenings but also try to discover the painful Polish past on your own. But in 2018 too, there are some parts of the city that never grow old or uninteresting. Especially this year it's important to stress the Polish-Jewish history and partnership.
This place was the only one of about 400 synagogues in pre-war Warsaw to survive the war. It was built 1898-1902 according to the design of an unknown architect in Neo Roman style. Both sections of the synagogue (men on the groundfloor and women upstairs, on the balcony) can accommodate around 350 people. The synagogue is nowadays the most important place to host praying and cultural events of the Jewish society in Warsaw. The synagogue also has a mikveh in the cellar - a place of traditional, ritual immersion in Jewish culture.
